Zero Draft

Look at that cartoon up there! It appears to be referencing Paul Ryan’s dishonest speech at the GOP convention. As we can see, Ryan is drawn as Pinocchio, a character famous for lying because, when he told a lie, his nose grew. Ryan’s nose appear to be extending. Let us note that the elephant is putting his finishing touches on his new creation, while quoting the GOP Convention’s slogan, We Built It. This implies that in some way Ryan is a puppet, or doll of the GOP. It would appear that they have complete control over what he says or does. He is, in essence, a stooge. Note also that Pinocchio was a liar. This would be a reference to Ryan’s dishonest speech. There is an implied linkage between the dishonesty of Ryan’s speech, and the dishonesty of the GOP who control him.

I would also point out the element of the Pinocchio story which is that Pinocchio wants to be a ‘real boy.’ With Ryan drawn as the wooden doll, this implies that he is somehow fake, or incomplete. He’s not a real man, he is just an automaton generated by the GOP to trumpet their propaganda and get Mitt Romney to victory.

It also looks like the elephant is putting the final touches on his creation, as though he is about to unveil it to the public.

Of course, the text is another can of worms. “We Built It,” is a reference by the GOP to Obama’s supposed gaffe, “You didn’t build that.” This cartoon may be making a statement against the GOP saying, “well maybe you built that, but it’s all fakery and lies.”
